How does one define the concept of accessibility in a photo?
While working on my post, What is Accessibility?, I wanted to include a photo that would express the value of accessibility. In addition, I wanted this image to be a free stock image that can be used for other purposes.
While searching online, I came across a stock photo that seems to strike the right concept when it is used in the right context.
Image Description of Giving Flowers Between Bars
We are looking at a horizonatal photo reformatted using the 16:9 ratio in greyscale with all colors removed. It is a photo of one person passing a handful of flowers to another person reaching out to take them.
Using the rule of thirds, in the bottom third, there are two different people on either side of the image, both whom are outside of the frame but their upper arms and hands are visible.
Starting from the lower-left, the person is reaching out between a gap in what may be a fence or a similar structure. This person is holding three flowers in a closed-fist position slightly bent towards the other person.
The flowers are sturdy, at an angle towards the person on the right. The other person appears from the lower-right with an open hand facing us while reaching out to the person on the left.
There is a gap between these two hands which is filled in with the leaves of the flowers extending from the person on the left and touching the hand of the person on the right.
Filling out the background of the image at an angle closest to our left and disappearing into the distance on our right is a wooden fence. The person on our left is reaching through between the wood slats.
End of image description.
To be honest with you, this image is a challenge, pushing me outside my experience zone. It is a bit of an expressive image with two dimensional contexts involved, one being the passing of flowers, and the other being the passing of flowers through the fence.
I’m curious if we can improve this image description somehow. Any ideas or suggestions you might have will be welcomed in the comments below. Let’s make this challenging image description greater so everyone can enjoy their reading experience.
