Have you ever wondered about how to define your blog culture?
That moment happened to me while working on my blog’s business plan. My first question was exactly what is a blog culture? Instantly, I googled for an answer and surprisingly got nowhere.
Why define a blog culture?
As mentioned earlier, I was working on my blog business plan. One area of the blog business plan I had to identify was my blog culture. To be honest with you, this is as far as I got for now.
- A place to hang out and exchange thoughts
- A place to learn and explore ideas
What is a culture?
It can be difficult to define a culture when one takes a bird’s eye point of view on everything. For example, I generally take the point of view that there is only one race, the human race.
However, taking that point of view doesn’t help with cultural values.
We are all part of the human culture. Things gets more complicated when we narrow this down further.
For example, I consider myself part of the Deaf culture. However, defining the Deaf culture is not that simple. The Deaf culture includes those are deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people.
What does make the Deaf culture stand out is the use of sign language as the primary language. But that’s a separate discussion for another day. Let’s look at the dictionary here for a moment.
The sum of attitudes, customs, and beliefs that distinguishes one group of people from another.
With this definition, we can apply it in a way that allows us to define our blog culture.
However, a blog is such a broad term. To narrow it down further, we need to combine the two terms, blog and culture. Let’s see where that leads us.
What is a blog culture?
As I mentioned before, I googled the question and got nowhere. In fact, a popular blogger asked the same question and arrived at the same conclusion.
I have no idea really.
How to define your blog culture.
This is where it requires some thinking.
While thinking, I noticed a key word in the definition I mentioned earlier.
Actually, that’s two words.
What is the sum here? I revisited the points I defined so far for my blog culture. That’s when I realize my blog culture is the sum of everyone who visit this blog.
In other words, you are part of my blog culture.
Share your thoughts.
What do you think a blog culture means to you?
Remember, this is a place for you to hang out, exchange thoughts and explore ideas. I look forward to your comments.
