5 Things I Love About Expert Vagabond’s Landing Page
While he doesn’t post on a frequent basis, when he does, his posts captivates you and provokes you to explore. He’s one of the first of the few bloggers who inspire me.
While it would be awesome to end up in the same league as he is with regards to sharing stories about my travels, I have a long ways to go before I reach the end of the world.
Until then, one of the more common advice you hear from successful bloggers is to identify your favorite (insert your brand, blogger, business, product, service here) and pick out what you like best about them.
Five things I love about landing pages.
In this case, I’m trying to develop an awesome landing page for my home page. There’s so many great landing page but I have a problem. I want my landing page to be accessible to everyone regardless of their human condition.
And to be honest with you, many of these landing pages are inaccessible.
Ever land on a page with a video that does not have captioning? Welcome to my world. The second I land on those pages, I close the window.
I do not want you to close the window when you land on my page.
I can’t change the world. However, I can show you how the world has influenced me to be as great as I can be. This is where I bring Matt into the picture here.
An Imaginary Interview With Matthew Karsten
Welcome to my imaginary podcast interview with one of the most amazing travel bloggers on the planet, Matthew Karsten, also known as Matt for short or the Expert Vagabond.
Matt, let me just take a quick moment to say thank you for joining me today. I have to tell you that you rock! Jeez, man, every time I read your post, I want to chuck it all out the window, grab my pack and head out the door forever.
No audio reply but imagine Matt grinning and nodding while waiting for his cue.
Okay, before we cut to the heart of the interview, can you share with my readers what you do and what the Expert Vagabond is about?
Matt responds with an excerpt from his About page:
I’m a full-time adventure travel blogger & photographer who’s been exploring the world for over 6 years, with no plans to stop anytime soon. My travel blog is where I share entertaining stories, useful travel tips, fun videos, amazing photography, and crazy adventures with you from my perpetual travels around the world.
Hell, yeah, you provide an insane amount of stuff. In fact, your Operation Gringo Revenge is why I secured my laptop. It’s amazing the length people go to disrupt your plans.
In any case, I gotta wrap this up and tell you that your home page is one of my favorite landing page in the blogsphere. No bullshit, no crap, just tell it like it is and let the reader discover for themselves.
That’s what I am trying to achieve on mine. Now for those of you listening in on this imaginary podcast, understand that by no means am I trying to pretend to be as awesome as Matt is or steal his thunder.
No audio reply here but imagine Matt nodding his head here with a serious facial expression.
Matt has improved his site over the years to a point where you can’t help but love it. I am about to show you what his home page looks like as of February 2017 because odds are pretty damn good that it will change in the future. What kind of changes is for Matt to know and for us to discover.
No audio reply but imagine Matt grinning and nodding his head again.
The image is going to link to an attachment page where there will be an image description for those of you who need further details about what his home page looks like.
5 Things I Love About This Landing View
It’s big. It’s bold. It’s visually inviting.
And probably most importantly of all, a short, simple statement followed by a personal message.
Damn, I used up four things already. Maybe I should think before I write next time. Oh well, one last thing then I will wrap up this imaginary podcast.
I love the use of the image, accented by the color, orange, and the opaque overlay over the image to make it easy to read the introduction. Hmm…. all that might count as extra things but I’m bundling them together since it’s all together.
No audio reply but imagine Matt nodding in agreement.
Well, that’s five things.
Matt, it was a pleasure to have you here today. I wish you great success in your upcoming adventures and naturally, look forward to reading all about it. Do you have any final words for my audience?
Matt responds with an excerpt from his About page:
Thank you so much for reading!
Aye, reading is powerful. I encourage everyone to read. This was a short and sweet imaginary podcast and I hope my imaginary transcript does it justice.
I do have to finish this podcast with a notice regarding the use of images for accessibility purposes. I am not an expert in this area but if you do use images, make sure to include the alt details and image descriptions when possible.
Now it’s time to turn over this imaginary podcast to my audience.
